Uganda: a beautiful but poor country
Mission UP’s current projects are based in Uganda. The country in East Africa is characterised by beautiful landscapes, but most of the population is very poor.

The “Pearl of Africa”
Uganda is also called the “Pearl of Africa”. The African country is characterised by lakes, primeval forests, national parks and savannahs. The equator runs through the south of the country.
Uganda’s population is very young, and it grows rapidly. he estimated median age in 2020 was 16.7 years. The proportion of people under the age of 15 was 46.5% in 2019. Most of the population is very poor, despite the beautiful nature and the often fertile soil. Electricity and water are scarce, especially in rural areas. The houses are often simple mud huts built by their inhabitants. The main source of food for many people are maize flour and beans cooked on wood fires. There are often several children in a family and many do not know their father for cultural reasons, or their father is dead.
Jobs, healthcare and money for schooling are urgently needed in the rural areas.
